Wide sterling silver cuff etched with a fine art deco pattern. Anti-clastic form created by hand-forming. Finished with contrasting high polished background of black pearl contrasted with satin finish highlights. A challenging polishing project using a rotary tool. This Black Pearl Patina is twelve layers which are hand painted liver of sulfur, the LOS bleeds into the clear section which must be polished out. The a different buff is used to bring the LOS layer to a high polished, this process is repeated 12 times to achieve this stunning statement finish. GemRapture Jewellery specializes in etching metals, handcrafted in Canada.

Anti-clastic cuffs are comfortable to wear as they shift naturally between the wrist bone and the hand during movement. The size of a cuff should shift comfortably over the wrist bone and rest on the hand with your arms down. I rarely take my cuff off, as there is an opening between the ends, should I get caught on something the cuff will slip off.  Wearing your sterling cuff will keep it polished as the natural oils from our skin act as a barrier.  The photography shown of our pieces will magnify small blemishes normally not visible to the naked eye.

Cuffs

Wide cuffs are statement accessories. Anti-clastic cuffs are comfortable to wear as they shift naturally between the wrist bone and the hand during movement. When placing your arm on the table the edges press into the table not your arm. With the anti-clastic form, the etching pattern is protected as most glancing blows are typically blocked by the slightly raised edge. I rarely take my cuff off, as there is an opening between the ends, should I get caught on something the cuff will slip off.

The size of a cuff should shift comfortably over the wrist bone and rest on the hand with your arms down. A cuff is typically worn closer to the skin unlike a bangle which is round and rolls around the wrist. Our wrist is naturally oval, so our cuffs are formed oval as well. And it slips comfortably inside a long sleeve blouse. I have finished the metal so it retains a slight spring and will allow you to custom form the cuff to your wrist.

We use a Liver of Sulfur to patina our sterling, this is the most natural patina that will occur with age. Tarnish/patina on sterling silver is caused naturally from sulfur in the atmosphere and different chemicals that touch the sterling. Different chemicals will have varying colour reactions and alter the patina color. Scratches and dents will soon be indistinguishable as patina fills in the bright spots. You will notice changes in the patina when you first start wearing the cuff, just continue to wear it. Wearing your sterling cuff will keep it polished as the natural oils from our skin act as a barrier.  The slight discolouration is disguised with the overall patination of the cuff. A buffing cloth can be used lightly.

The photography shown of our pieces will magnify small blemishes normally not visible to the naked eye. They are created during the etching process. Although an additional resist is applied to the sterling, during the seven hours in the etching bath, it is not always possible to see small pin holes in the resist until the final process is complete. I do not buff these out as they show that the cuff is handmade, not machine made. As the cuff ages they are not visible as the patina starts to disguise. Made by humans, worn proudly by humans!

All finished jewellery items are “one of a kind”, the photograph you see is the exact piece you will receive. Photos have not been edited or retouched and are an accurate representation of the finished piece.
